Temperature Sensors
Convert a temperature sensor's binary normal or abnormal status into degree values through the HAP protocol so it can appear in the Home app.
Why the Mapping Exists
The Temperature Sensor (temperature) processes sensor statuses differently from standard contact sensors.
A typical contact sensor conveys an open or closed status. The temperature sensor exposed in the Home app uses the HAP protocol, which operates with temperature values rather than open or closed states.
To bridge that difference, the accessory converts the sensor's binary status into a corresponding temperature in degrees.
Status to Degree Mapping
The plugin maps each status to a fixed temperature value:
| Status | Reading |
|---|---|
| Normal | 0 C |
| Abnormal | 100 C |
A reading of 0 C indicates a normal status, and a reading of 100 C indicates an abnormal status. These are the only two values the accessory reports.
Adding a Temperature Sensor
A temperature sensor is exposed in read-only mode and must be listed explicitly in your configuration. Set its adtType to temperature in the sensor object:
{
"sensors": [
{
"name": "Basement Temperature",
"adtName": "Basement Temperature Sensor",
"adtZone": 12,
"adtType": "temperature"
}
]
}
The adtName and adtZone values must match the "Name" and "Zone" columns shown under the "System" tab of the ADT Pulse portal.
